Lettering

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know I have recently discovered lettering. I say recently. More like over the past year or so. I started with normal biros and felt tips, now I have special pens, more than I can fit in my gorgeous goose pencil case, and a whole folder of bits and bobs, practise sheets, alphabets that I like, and finished pieces.

I need a place to store it all, so what better place than on here, where I can collate all of my lettering art that I do for myself or others. Some of my very kind friends have even asked me to do special ones for their kids or friends, so there’s quite a range on here!

It’s such a relaxing thing to do, I’d really recommend it, and it’s easy enough to pick up. Just check out some alphabets on a font page online, dafont is a good one to start with, and get copying and doodling. You’ll eventually find a style you like, and that will become your own. I started adding in a bit of scrap-booking stuff too, with patterned paper, which is fun too (and an excuse to have a whole other draw of craft stuff just for you!).

I also do some things on the computer too and have started combining that. I don’t have any Apple products, so I use Linux on my laptop, and Gimp is the software that I use. It’s a bit clunky and slow, and not as intuitive as the Apple stuff, but I’m getting to know the best ways to use it as I go and it is getting easier.

Next on the list to look at – Wacom tablets…what this space!

I’ve drawn up a few flyers and posters for companies, events etc. and have done some individual projects for friends, and friends of friends. If you’d like something pretty for your wall or a unique present for someone, let me know and I’ll happily whip something up at a small fee. I love doing it, so don’t do it for the money really! Check out the galleries and let me know what you think.
